Maternity Coat Shopping — Your Assistance Needed
November 12, 2007 | Baby Making, NaBloPoMo
I hate to sound like my son’s girlfriend, but “I need your help!”
The thing about getting pregnant at a different time of year than your first time is that NONE of those cute summer tops and capris really work so well this time around. And as much as I had planned not to purchase a maternity winter coat “because I’ll be so warm with the pregnancy” or “because I’ll wear one of Mr. Squirrel’s coats” or “I’ll just wear my own coats unbuttoned” or “because I have a great aversion to spending money on clothes I’ll only wear for one single season,” I’m going to have to buy a coat. Am I right?
I’m listing them from least to most expensive (I refuse to spend more than $100…who am I kidding? I’m not going to spend more than $70…) Some do not have pictures:
Old Navy
$52.80
This one also comes in grey, as you saw above on the adorable Frema!
Target
$59.99 Just reinforce the buttons, per usual with Target coats!
Motherhood Maternity — Please click on this link & then look at the model selling the red coat. Actually, I don’t think it’s the coat she’s trying to sell… $59.98
Motherhood Maternity
$69.98 Cute! And comes in a hideously Designing Women royal blue, too!
Gap
$99.00 That’s almost $100…plus shipping. Oh my stomach is clenching from my innate cheapness.
Mimi Maternity
$99.99 Must. Not. Succumb…
What’s a girl to do? I’m leaning towards the very first coat (Old Navy) since I just received a $10 off coupon in the mail from some class action lawsuit settlement that I didn’t know I was a part of. Oh seriously, Stacy. Just tell them. Fine. I BOUGHT THE OLD NAVY COAT IN BLACK. The coupon was burning a hole in my pocket. All this downloading/uploading/linking was for NAUGHT.
Hopefully someone out there is also searching for maternity winter coats and this may help guide them to an acceptable solution! Cuz eBay sellers, are you KIDDING yourselves. Yes. Why would I buy your used shit when I can buy it new for less? Seriously delusional.

I think the motherhood maternity one’s name says it all.
“Double breasted” BAH! Yes! I AM double breasted. Clearly, I need this coat.

Love the coat! I was just at Old Navy yesterday and for old times sake browsed through the maternity section. And I almost bought an adorable sweater, but really - why?
You are going to look great in your new coat.

I was going to say Old Navy anyway before you spilled the beans.
Um red coat whore? ick.
I have your gloves. I will give them to you and then you will be clad in black fabulousness. fabulosity? fabulicious? you are all 3.

I love the Old Navy coat, as well. Also, I love the CHEAP.
And? Thanks, HS. I was, indeed, looking for a winter coat for my sure-to-expanding-rapidly belly. I’m looking for a full-lenth puffy coat type of thing. Something in the manner of a down coat that’ll cover my bum.

I just purchased an Old Navy maternity coat myself a couple days ago. The 40% off outerwear sale this week is what finally convinced me. My belly will be grateful when it is not sticking out in the cold this winter!

I love the Old Navy coat! In fact, I’m a little jealous that it’s a maternity coat!

Hey, my top two choices were the Old Navy and the Gap. And if you need anything from Gap in the future, an outlet just opened around the corner and I can check there for you.

I’m so cheap that even the Old Navy one was too much for me. But dude, it’s the cutest one there. So I’m glad you got it.
(I never bought a coat. I went to Europe PREGNANT without a maternity coat. Yes, we’re that poor!)
(And I fully intend on getting knocked up in the same month as before so I can reuse all my clothes.)

You SO need a winter coat. Good decision.
Also, let me just say I love my Old Navy coat. Motherhood Maternity is good for some things, but I’m not always happy with what I buy there. I wouldn’t trust them with something so important as a coat.
My second vote would be for the Gap coat, because I’ve loved just about everything I’ve ordered from their maternity Web site, but really, why spend more than a hundred bucks when you can spend seventy?

It’s a very cute coat and obvs. the woman hawking the red coat is a whore (I mean, right?)

Copy Frema and get the Old Navy one. If you haven’t already.
I like the dark color. It matches your soul.

I think you made the right choice. I was going to vote for the first one.

Alex was born in January. I did not wear a coat EVEN ONCE while I was pregnant with him. But then again, I live in Texas, where it is not uncommon to see low 80s on Christmas Day.
I like the Old Navy one. Nice choice.

Class action lawsuit? I need to get in on that! I have a panic attack every time I go into Old Navy from the utter disorganiztion, the overwhelming array of options, the way NOTHING FITS ME, and the pushy shoppers who act like every day is Black Friday. Old Navy owes me millions in damages to my fragile mental state while shopping.

you made a good choice. The Old Navy was the one I was going to suggest.

Before reading the end of your post, I was going to say “Go for Old Navy, Frema was right, look how cute she is in that coat”. So now I read the end of the post, all I have to say is “Good choice!”

Good choice!! That’s the one I would have gone for!
