the Mother of All Holidays — Day 4 Contest Winner!
May 9, 2008 | holidays
Oh my lands…I guess this was kind of difficult, but Liza and Mrs. CPA figured it out!
I wanted you to guess which NPR show I saw taped last night, who was SUPPOSE to be the celebrity guest but couldn’t fulfill his obligation (that’s a hint, peeps), and how many items I bought at the concession stand. Let me assure you…if there’s a concession stand, I will buy crap. I heart overpriced, fatty, salty foods!
So, my neighbor and I watched the taping of Wait! Wait! Don’t Tell Me!
Peter Sagal didn’t look like what he did in my imagination (wha? no houndstooth knickers and peg leg? Damn). And Karl Kassel’s voice is just as wonderful in person as it is sitting in my minivan.
Sigh.
I do love a good voice. Anyhoo, the celebrity guest booked months ago couldn’t make it since he is in hiding (or kissing his wife’s ass for the rest of his miserable life).
As for the concession stand bonus question, I purchased two items (water and popcorn)! An attorney pointed out to me that Mrs. CPA’s answer that I “went to the concession stand twice” doesn’t answer the question. Point taken, Ms. Liza…I’ll see you in chambers, Mrs. CPA.
Or, I’ll just give you EACH a prize! Whooppeeeee!
Stay tuned for today’s contest! GOOD LUCK and HAPPY FRIDAY!

Mmmm. So right there with you about Karl Kassel’s voice.
Seriously, I loved this contest. This one was my favorite so far! (I am such a geek.)
My winning thought process went like this:
Read post.
Immediately think, “This American Life!”
Click on comments.
Think, “Wait! TAL doesn’t have guests. It’s all edited stories. Who has guests?”
The comedy quiz shows have guests! Hmm. Michael Feldman’s Whad’ya Know? Or Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me?
I bet it was Wait Wait. Stacey seems more like a Wait Wait woman. (I love them both — I’ve been to a taping of Whad’ya Know, too!)
Go to the Wait Wait web site.
Click on see the show, other locations.
Albany, May 8.
Yup, that’s it alright!
Albany.
Who would be a strange and obscure Albany guest?
No…strange and obscure is more the Whad’ya Know guest.
Albany! The CAPITOL of New York!
Back to Stacey’s post, how did she characterize the missing guest? There’s a clue there! I swear there is!
He was “suppose to be the special guest but couldn’t fulfill his duties?”
OMG! Elliot Spitzer!
That’s freaking hilarious!!!
Pause to snort loudly and close the office door so as not to attract attention.
Wonder if Spitzer was REALLY supposed to be the guest, or if they just made that up so they could use that hilarious line. Not that it matters, I’m SURE that’s the official answer.
Giggle out loud again.
Now to the bonus question…ACK! I don’t KNOW!
Was Stacey hungry? It was evening, she’d had dinner.
But if she didn’t get much, it isn’t such a funny bonus question.
And she’s gotta be thirsty, she’s nursing.
Approximately 3.5 minutes of checking what other people said, going back and forth in my mind, giggling about the main answer, and finally just making some shit up.

My thought process: “Wuh???”

I totally misread the bonus question. I thought it asked how many times did you visit the consession stand. And I should get extra credit because I do not listen to NPR and had to do copious amounts of research about what shows they even have on that crazy station. Obviously Liza had a brain full of NPR shows at the ready. So I’m sorry there had to be a tie. My reading comprehension skills have declined at the same rate as my kidlet is growing. Strage phenomona, but all too true.

Mrs. CPA, in my email to Stacey, I TOTALLY said that if hard work was part of the equation, you deserved to win.
And then I pointed out that you didn’t answer the question. Because I’m a lawyer and I can’t help it.

I was going to post something witty, but who the hell cares: Michelle Duggar is expecting #18.

I saw a taping of that in Chicago and it was AWESOME! It made me actually want to listen to NPR!
