I’ve Been Here and There

May 3, 2010 | random randomness

Whoa (yes, that was suppose to sound like Joey), I rarely blog anymore. I still have lots to say, most of it random and completely frivolous, but I’m just not finding the time. You’re missing so much and yet you’re all surviving. Let’s just say I’m letting you (yes you! the one reader!) down slowly for the big quit.

Other things I’ve been quitting:  pop. As much as I love me some Diet Coke (and if I could, I’d drink 3 a day), I hate how the cans clutter my kitchen, the festering stink of the bottle return area and how gassy I am. And then, to boot, I’ve started saying (oh the shame) “soda!” That is completely unacceptable yet understandable after living here in “soda” country for over 7 years and on many occasions having waiters or cashiers be completely confused when I blurt out in my Michigan accent (that’s a joke! I don’t have an accent!) “and a medium Pah-ah-puh”). FINE.

Then, on a morning when I was pondering whether or not to give up POP but knew there were two left in the fridge, I became ridiculously upset upon discovering that I was wrong– we didn’t have any pop left! None! No pop! It was like a really pathetic episode of Addicted because I totally felt that I wasn’t quite ready to give up POP — I needed one last good pop. Or two. And then I could quit.

So enough. I just said done.

It’s been four days, and I’ve GOT to start brewing some iced tea.

  1. Aw poop.

So wait – have you decided to accept this gift to go to treatment and turn your life around or not?

  2. Hey, I’m off soda pop, too! It’s torture b/c W still drinks like a maniac—mmmmmm. . . Coke Zero. But I’ve probably made it, like, two weeks, which is a personal record. Yay, me. If I’m dying I do seltzer with extra lime juice.

But now, what are you going to do with the tea? Sugar? Fake sweetener? Nothing? I tried green tea with nothing and it was decent, but. . . joyless.

    I completely didn’t understand your butternut comment–what am I missing/

  3. Good for you for quitting POP (I call it soda, but since I’m in your backyard, I’ll conform!)! I’ve been soda free for about 4 years now and while I will have an occasional Dt. Coke when I’m out, I don’t miss it and actually, it tastes kinda gross to me now. Of course now I’m totally addicted to Dunkin Donuts Unsweetened Ice Tea with Lemon, but hey at least it doesn’t have sugar in it, fake or real! I also make my own at home, but it’s not the same. :(
    Good Luck!

  4. Good for you on the pop, soda, whatever the hell you want to call it. The Diet Coke is on my list of things to quit. But…you are not allowed to quit blogging until I do. This way we can both put up meaningless posts once a quarter or so.

  5. Glory hallelujah! We can say pop! I’m out of the closet. I’ve been faking “soda” for years!

Why is there such discrimination against pop sayers?

  6. No. No no no nono. Nnnnnnnnno.

Give up the fizzy drinks. Give up any thing else you think you need to. But no. You should not stop blogging.

  7. Don’t quit! Just take a few weeks…months…almost a year off! Like me! I will miss you too much.

We call it soda here in the west but my mom is from Michigan so I grew up calling it pop. Luckily I’m not now nor have ever been addicted to it, but I still get the shakes if I can’t check in on my celebrity gossip sites…I don’t know how you’ll shake it!

  8. haha cool. We NEVER say soda or pop here in OZ.
We say fizzy drink or soft drink. soda is wht we call carbonated water.
